writing assignments 2017-2018
In this paper, we had to write about pain, and how it effects people in their day-to-day lives. I didn't do as great as I would have liked to on this project. It was the first paper we wrote, so it was not very encouraging to have such a bad grade to start off the year. It had been a while since I had actually written a formal paper, so I was very out of practice. My abilities in creative writing are much more developed. I believe that my formal writing has gotten much better since this paper, and I am looking forward to see how it develops as I move on through my high school career.
When we were doing the debate unit, I partnered with Alyssa Digman. She and I negated the argument: "The United States should require universal background checks for all gun sales and transfer ownership. It was difficult for me to do this because I do not like weapons and all the violence that comes with them. When I was researching, however, I did see some very valid arguments and statistics on the subject that I had never heard before. I was surprised to find such good sources, and all the information came with them. Even though my opinion on the topic didn't change, I learned that both sides have good reasons, you just have to do research before you say that one song is wrong.
The Scary Story unit was my favorite unit we've done this year. I really enjoy writing fictional stories, and it's definitely my strong suit. It's my favorite unit because I also went out of my comfort zone by writing something more than just a Young Adult fiction story. I'd never written a scary or mysterious story before this, and I enjoyed it. I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't wait until the last minute to write it. Either way, if I think of another story similar to this one I will definitely write it.
